J.D. Salinger Dead at 91

"Catcher in the Rye" author J.D. Salinger has died at age 91 in New Hampshire.

The author's son, in a statement from the author's literary representative, says Salinger died of natural causes at his home. He had lived for decades in self-imposed isolation in the small, remote house in Cornish, N.H.

"The Catcher in the Rye" with its immortal teenage protagonist -- the twisted, rebellious Holden Caulfield -- came out in 1951 during the time of anxious, Cold War conformity.

Salinger wrote for adults, but teenagers all over the world identified with the novel's themes of alienation, innocence and fantasy.

Cocaine Contributed to Billy Mays' Death

AP: An autopsy report says cocaine contributed to the death of TV pitchman Billy Mays.

The 50-year bearded TV personality died of a heart attack in his sleep. His wife found him unresponsive June 28 at their condo in Tampa, Fla.

A release from the Hillsborough County medical examiner's office Friday said Mays had last used cocaine days before his death.

The report said that although Mays died from heart disease, cocaine use was a contributing cause of death.

God I hope Oxyclean doesn't have cocaine as the cleaning ingredient.

The Gay Porn World Lost a Hero Today

NEW YORK (AP) -- The 1970s gay porn idol Jack Wrangler has died at age 62.

Lewis Tice, director of publicity and marketing for TLA Releasing, a distributor of gay-themed independent films, says Wrangler died in New York City of complications of lung disease.

Wrangler starred in numerous gay adult movies and went on to become a musical theater performer. His life was chronicled in last fall's documentary "Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon."

Tice says the openly gay superstar starred in more than 80 adult films beginning in the 70s and built a following with his piercing blue eyes and chiseled physique.

Wrangler later married pop vocalist Margaret Whiting, who survives him.
