Track Topics & Stories Over Time with Google Timeline

Well, the folks over at Google Labs have created awesome, again. This time they have come out with a stream of news events (the same events found in Google News) sorted in a timeline. This allows you to search for updates on a specific story on a specific date over days, weeks, months, and years. Check it out at http://newstimeline.googlelabs.com/.

Google News Timeline presents search results from a wide range of sources. You can search and browse results from Google News, including headlines, quotes, photos from our Hosted News partners, and YouTube partner videos. You can also search for thousands of archival newspapers and magazines from Google News Archive Search and Google Book Search.

You can also add Blog Search results and sports scores, as well as information about books, music, movies, tv shows, video games, and even artists, to see how they've appeared over time.

Turkish News Anchor Reports on President Obama with Black Face

A Turkish news anchor wore dark face paint while he reported on President Obama's trip to the country.

A rough translation: "Welcome, Mr. Obama. You took our hearts with your hospitality. We appreciate your kindness. We will do whatever America asks of us, as friends. Now, we ask the same of you."

It's not clear if the broadcast is a spoof or not. BuzzFeed says that the face darkening is meant to be "a metaphor for the way the Bush administration "darkened" the face of the Turkish public, and how the anchor hopes Obama will turn things around." [Huffington Post]

Shoe-Thrower a Hero?

The New York Times is reporting that the journalist who threw his shoes at Bush is being herald as a hero in Arab countries. The TV network that he works for hasn't apologized for the incident. Although, I thought the whole situation was pretty hilarious, Bush is still a world leader and deserves basic respect. There should be punishment. He is a journalist and he compromised his integrity and the standards of journalism. There are better ways to voice disapproval. He should be ashamed of his actions and people should not support or condone his disrespectful behavior. [story via NYTIMES]
