Rumors: Google to Sell Unlocked Nexus One for $530, $180 W/2-Year T-Mobile Contract

Rumors say that Google will sell the Nexus One (aka Google phone) for $530 unlocked. A cheaper version is available at $180, but will require a 2-year T-Mobile contract. Here's the round up of other rumors regarding the phone:

• Existing T-Mo customers can’t keep their current plan if they want a subsidized phone.
• The subsidized price only works on accounts with single lines. Family plans, Flexpay, SmartAccess and KidConnect plans must buy the phone at the full $530 unlocked price.
• You can onliy buy five Nexus Ones per Google account.
• Looks like it can be shipped outside the U.S.
• It’ll be sold at google.com/phone.
• And if you buy the Nexus One at the subsidized price and cancel before 120 days have passed, you have to pay the difference — $350 — or return the phone to Google.

Window Shop with Google on Your Mobile Phone

Google is launching a way for customers to check out stores and restaurants on their mobile phones. Basically, Google searched out the top 100,000 or so places (physical locations only) that users search for on Google. They then sent them a QR code (image above). Mobile phone users can then scan that code using various apps across multiple phones (including iPhone, Blackberry and of course, Android) to get information about what the store sells, how much it cost and other information. Motorolla Straps Droid Onto Scud Missile in New Ad

Droid Coming to Verizon on November 6

All set to be the best phone on Verizon's network, the Motorolla Droid comes out on November 6th. Packed with Google's Android OS, a pop out (and touchscreen) keyboard, 5 MP camera with flash, and free Google Navigation with voice search, Droid will be the best shot Verizon (and Motorolla) has to compete with the iPhone 3GS (regardless of if there is a map for that or not).



Aesthetically, it doesn't look all that pretty, but it's decent when collapsed. The OS itself is fast, just as fast as the iPhone 3GS. The screen is crisper, better than the iPhone.

While there aren't as many crazy apps for Android as there are for the iPhone, Google is on the rise with it's mobile os. It is still chasing after the iPhone, but it's a lot closer than Blackberry.



Anyone with Verizon that wants a great phone (because Verizon has NONE) should go after the Motorolla Droid.

Along with Android 2.0, Google has launched Navigation! Oh, AND IT'S FREE! No surprise that Tom Tom's stock tumbled as a result. The Google Navigation app will also be coming to the iPhone soon.

The NYC Exit Strategy App for the iPhone, Blackberry, Android and Kindle makes finding the correct route to your destination very easy. All you have to do is choose your destination or what line you want to use and it will give you all the possible entrances and exits. It even has notices for handicap-accessible stations. Never have to look at a crappy, confusing, crowded subway map again! Not to mention, it tells you which subway car to sit in, so that you can get out at the stairs closest to your destination. It sells for $2, totally a fair price to pay for the time you'll save. [Gizmodo]

If the HTC Hero Was a Super Hero, Would it be the Flash?

Meet the new HTC Hero. It runs Google's Android OS. It looks pretty good and there are videos popping up everywhere showing it off. First off, it's available with an aluminum body. The screen is super responsive, even when using multi-touch gestures (much like the iPhone). It's got all the widgets you expect on just about all phones these days.


But the biggest part of the phone is the supposed built-in flash support. Earlier, Adobe released information saying that they will release Flash for mobile in October of this year (one of the most wanted features on all mobile phones). According to people who have played with the HTC Hero, the flash is there, even though it is a little buggy and could use much improvement. Still, a great phone, running a great OS, with flash built-in is enough to sell this thing fast. Faster than the flash? We'll see. [HTC Hero]

T-Mobile myTouch 3G (aka G2) Coming This Summer

Gmail, Google Calendar Updated for iPhone, Android

The updated Gmail and Google Calendar are much improved and allow batch actions (ie delete all selected). It's also a lot faster. Updates are being rolled out as you read this and may take a few days.

This Lifehacker table shows why iPhone users might want to use the mobile app instead of the native mail feature and Android users are probably more likely to use the native feature.
