Want to Watch the NBA on the Go, There's an App for That

NBA League Pass released an app yesterday allowing users to watch non-blacked out games on their iPhone. The app costs $39.99 and will likely need a renewal next year. While it is expensive, it lets users watch 40 games per week right off the iPhone's 3G network (wifi works as well). The app also has full game archives, replays, highlights and more. League pass is pretty expensive if you want to buy it for TV. NBA Digital also has a broadband version of League Pass that starts at $90 for the season. So while 40 bucks is a lot for an iPhone app, it's a better price than the alternatives.

Who Says the NBA Doesn't Have a Steroid Problem?

Orlando Magic All-Star forward Rashard Lewis tested positive for a testosterone-producing substance, dehydroepiandrosterone, which is commonly known as DHEA, and will be suspended without pay 10 games at the beginning of the season. "I hope this unintentional mistake will not reflect poorly on our team and its great character," Lewis said in a statement. [Orlando Sentinel]

The steroid Lewis tested positive for was Dehydroepiandrosterone, commonly known as DHEA. It is found in over-the-counter supplements accross the country. It is not illegal to use. Bills brough to the House of Representatives and Senate in 2007 (thanks to Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, who is the son of a lobbyist for one of the big DHEA production firms) that would have banned the substance were not passed and therefore the possession and use of DHEA are still legal.

Regardless, the NBA, NFL, NHL, both Olympic committees and bicylcing committees have listed it as a banned substance.

Yes, I missed a sport. MLB, the league with the biggest steroid problem in the world right now, allows the use of DHEA amongst its athletes.

So basically the steroid Rashard Lewis was suspended for is permitted in Major League Baseball. [NBA Fanhouse]

RJ Ditches Dancer Wife Hours Before Wedding

According to the NY Post, Richard Jefferson, who was recently traded to the San Antonio Spurs, bailed out of his wedding plans just two hours before the ceremony.

The former Nets/Bucks star had been dating former Nets Dancer Kesha Ni'Cole Nichols and the two had planned out a $2 million wedding at the Mandarin Oriental in Columbus Circle on Saturday.

Kesha managed to tell her friends and family about the cancellation, Jefferson, not so much.

One friend tells the NY Post that RJ never showed up, but plenty of his friends did.

Don't worry, Jefferson did "the right thing" and gave his friends his black AMEX card for the night. [NY Post]

What happened to the Hornets???

The Nuggets tied an NBA record for the largest margin of victory when they annilated the Hornets by 58 points last night, 121-63. The last time a team was blown out by that much, well...you would have to back to the days of 1956 when the Lakers were not known as the LA Lakers, but rather the Minneapolis Lakers.

Real Life Live Mascots Might Not be a Good Idea

A real hawk flying around in the middle of a basketball game probably isn't the best idea. Especially when it gets hit by a buzzer beating 3/4 court chuck up. Then you'll have PETA all over you.

The Best Team in the NBA

LeBron James sat out of the final regular season game for some well deserved rest. But the Cleveland Cavs aren't just about LeBron James, they are a team damnit! And when one player is out, his teammates step up. Take Anderson Varejao for example:

That's right TEAM! This is exactly why the Cavs are going to be 2009 NBA Champions. They play, joke and have fun as a team. LeBron is the star and they (and we) all know it. But LeBron knows that without his boys to back him up (even jokingly), he'll never that championship ring.

Derrick Rose Will be Named Rookie of the Year

I think it's safe to say (even though game 1 is not over yet) that Derrick Rose will be named Rookie of the year for the 2008-09 season. With 6 minutes left, he has 32 points, 8 assists and 4 rebounds. Oh yea, this is his first playoff game EVER. 32 points is a career-high for him as well and there s plenty of time to up that as well. So there it is, Derrick Rose = ROY.

Anything short of that would be highway robbery.

UPDATE: Rose finished with 36 points, 11 assists and 4 rebounds. He fouled out as well.
