This is When Hockey Becomes Fun

Rangers coach John Tortorella threw a plastic drinking bottle over the glass and into the stands during a confrontation with a fan in the third period of New York's 4-0 loss to the Washington Capitals on Friday night, according to multiple media reports.

Tortorella and a man standing behind the Rangers' bench were seen yelling at each other with about 13½ minutes left in the game. After Tortorella heaved the green plastic bottle, he grabbed Aaron Voros' hockey stick and held it high, waving it in the fan's direction before assistant coach Jim Schoenfeld stepped in to calm him.

A TV replay of the episode did not show whether anything was thrown at Tortorella, but there were reports a cup of liquid was tossed over the bench at him, and he was seen using a towel to wipe off his suit. [ESPN]

Don't Mess With the Fordham Ram

A drunk or high (or both) student was at the cafeteria at Fordham University when the mascot walked in. The student decided to take a shot at the Ram and knocked him on his behind and knocked the mascot supersized head off. Seeing that the man inside the costume was quite big, the student decided to make a run for it. He didn't get too far.

Hundreds of bewildered students enjoying the warm weather saw a man dressed in Fordham athletics gear jump over the fence and sprint straight to the middle of Eddie's, followed by several cafeteria workers. He approached a Fordham student and, with one sickening punch to the face, knocked him to the ground.....

One side of the student's face turned an ugly shade of purple. When Carroll went to restrain him, he resisted, pleading to be allowed to go back to his room. Many witnesses suspected the student was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. When Carroll and other security personnel tried to put him in a security vehicle, he resisted more violently, and security tried to put handcuffs on him. The mascot stood quietly and agreed to go to the hospital calmly. Both were eventually taken to the hospital.
