Mocking the AT&T networks and the Apple iPhone, Verizon came out with a "there's a map for that" ad by Verizon that shows off Verizon's 3G network vs. the AT&T network that sucks. Too bad Verizon doesn't have a iPhone for me. Good thing they are getting Android phones in a couple of weeks, because the rest of their phones can shove that map up their sd card slots.

MapQuest 4 Mobile is now available as an app in the iTunes App store. It provides a decent alternative to the native Google Maps. The one thing I noticed was that address support was not available. Outside of that it works pretty well. You can save a page of widgets in the app (up to 20) which may come in handy when you're on the road. It even has a navigation type mode when you hold the phone in landscape mode. Best of all, the app is free. Here's a silent video of the app in action: MapQuest 4 Mobile.

You can now follow the new H1N1 strain of Influenza, aka Swine Flu, on Google Maps. The page is updated in real time and you'll be able to see how it has spread and hopefully go away. The pink markers are suspected cases. The purple are confirmed cases. Ones without a black dot are fatal and yellow markers are negatives (a couple in France). [Google Maps]
