Netflix to go Streaming Only by 2010?

Netflix CEO, Reed Hastings, says Netflix wants to open up to streaming only subscriptions by 2010. This could effectively eliminate costs of shipping, all those red envelopes and all those discs (many of which are often damaged) while gaining more customers.

Reed says: “We’ve got one singular objective, which is ‘Be successful in streaming,’” he said. “If we do that, that’s a homerun.”

This technically makes sense. First, they beat out Blockbuster by making Netflix available by mail so you don't have to drive out to a store. Now, you don't even have to send anything in the mail. Video would be available at the click of a button. It's the logical next step. [Bloomberg via Engadget]
