When you grow up named after a NBA player, you would normally figure it was because your parents liked that player (or you're his son). But not Washington's Isaiah Thomas. Nope, Thomas was given his name because his father is a Lakers fan that lost a bet to a Pistons fan during the 1989 NBA Finals.
His mom was apparently okay with the name Isaiah because it's a biblical name.

I feel bad for the kid, his dad must feel the pain of "Showtime" and the Lakers being swept in the Finals all the time. Then again, the Lakers have won plenty of rings since then for him to get over it. Not to mention the fact that his son is a baller and a pretty good one at that. [AZ Star]
