The NFL Needs More Players Like Larry Fitzgerald

I know, pretty obvious statement, Fitzgerald is playing amazing, especially as of late. But, that's not why the NFL needs more players like him. It's his demeanor, attitude and will to win.

Today, he was asked if he would be willing to re-work his contract so that the Cardinals would keep Anquan Boldin. His response:

"Someone asked me a question if I would be willing to do something to help the team, and I said, 'No problem,'"

"This opportunity right here to be playing deep in the postseason, this is an amazing feeling. I'll do whatever it takes to get back to this point going forward in my career." [ESPN]

Whether or not Boldin will want to stay is another question all together. But the fact is that Larry Fitzgerald is a winner. Regardless of the outcome of this year's Superbowl, Fitzgerald is a winner in this league.

In the final drive of the NFC Championship Game, yeah, Fitz had some big catches, but what's more important is what happened after the catch. And I'm not talking about YAC. Fitzgerald was FIRED UP! And that intensity was contagious because after those catches by Fitz, Hightower was amped. The drive led to the game winning touchdown by Hightower, but make no mistake about it, without the fire of Larry Fitzgerald, the Cardinals would be back at home right now.

When you got players like Plaxico Burress, Adam "Pacman" Jones and Michael Vick you need special players to turn the image of the NFL around. Larry Fitzgerald is one of those players. He's a good guy and a great player that wants to win more than anything.

If Roger Goodell wants to turn around this image of NFL players who keep getting into trouble for doing stupid things off the field, he needs to promote the images of players like Fitzgerald. Like others have said, the NBA has LeBron James and Kevin Garnett, MLB has Derek Jeter, the NFL needs players (not teams necessarily) to be the face of the league. Larry Fitzgerald (along with others like Matt Ryan) can be that face.
