Police in Massachusetts were able to locate a kidnapped girl using the GPS in her phone and Google Street View to find hideout locations for the girl's kidnapper (her grandmother).
The GPS locations kept showing up withing a 300 feet radius. But the problem is, the grandmother had taken the girl to Virginia, if you didn't know, that's kind of far from Massachusetts.
So using Google Maps, the Massachusetts cops were able to find possible hideouts (hotels/motels) where the grandmother would have taken the girl. Using street view they found a hotel and it was confirmed their maps search. They informed Virginia state police of the location where the grandmother was caught and kid was found.
And here I was thinking Google Maps saves MY life. [Washington Post]
Note: Picture above is not the hotel where the girl was found.
