In a huh? moment, President-Elect Barack Obama has selected Bill Clinton's former Chief of Staff to be the head of the CIA. Leon Panetta would be the oldest person to be in charge of the CIA.
It's a very odd choice because while Panetta has experience in management and budget issues, he has no intelligence experience. Meanwhile the previous two persons (one being Bush Sr.) picked for the same job had little experience in the field as well.
The key thing here is that Obama is trying to pick someone outside of the Bush debacles over the last 8 years. At the same time he is picking people who have been in Clinton's administration.
Where's the change in personnel or experience? How do you continue to people with no experience in the related fields? [NY Times]
