Cinci Freedom, pictured above, has died.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP)--Cinci Freedom, a cow that escaped from a Cincinnati meatpacking plant in 2002 and ran free in a city park for 10 days, has lived out her life in bucolic splendor.
Cinci was euthanized on Dec. 29 after losing use of her hind legs from spinal cancer, according to Farm Sanctuary. The not-for-profit group, which also runs a farm in California, focuses in part on ensuring humane standards at mammoth agribusiness farms.
Although she never lost her intense fear of humans, the13-year-old Charolais put on plenty of weight and found room for plenty of frolicking out her days on a 175-acre animal sanctuary in western New York with a herd of feisty soulmates rescued from factory farms, stockyards and slaughterhouses.
